Everyone,
I posted this question some months ago, here and on the figure drawing message board to find out how others thought about people dropping by your studio for a visit while you the artist is working with a nude model. While there were over 1200 people that read the my message only a few took the time to respond. results: one model said he would like to know if there were going to be visitors the others said they didn't mind if there were visitors. Do you object or are you bothered when visitors enter the studio when you're posing nude? My neighbor and I share the cost when hiring a figure model. When scheduling the dates and times we explain, the model must be uninhibited while posing for two liberated ladies. The issue is family & friends sometimes stop in to watch us work. It never crossed my mind that the model might be uncomfortable until the other day when a model objected. Looking for some feedback. Joanne Edited by Joanne on Oct 6, 2007 2:26 PM |

Hi:
I work as a model and would not object. When I pose at art schools, receptionists and female firends of the students typically will enter the room while I am posing (nude but not aroused at the universities). I am concentrating on the tasks at hand so I don't really give it much thought. In your environment, it would not bother me unless it made the visitors uncomfortable. I am as liberated as you, so I find it okay. By the way, for the sake of the model, I hope that the poses are short and brief. Two hours of arousal are pretty tough. i think the models should be told in advance this might happen
then they can decide beforehand if it's a job they want to do maybe it's just the "surprise" of visitors that makes them uncomfortable personally, i wouldn't mind either way just a thought.... |

Hi, I haven't done a lot of figure modeling but as long as I knew in advance I wouldn't have a problem with people coming into the studio

I have posed while aroused, quite a lot, online for open adult groups. I find it very enjoyable to have, under those circumstances, people come in and out of the group, as I am somewhat of a showoff. They are adult groups and the people know what to expect when entering. If your setup is similar, meaning no kids, prudes, or cops, I think, it being a libertine environment, I would welcome it. It's all in good fun, and art of course, is the outcome.

I wouldn't mind at all. I am very uninhibited though being a nudist and having modeled nude for 13 + years in all types of situations. I can share a couple of situations that happened to me in the past where people entered or looked into the room where I was posing.
Once I was posing for a sculpture class at a college and a "tour" lady brought in prospective High School students into the room while I was in the middle of a pose. Another time the door was left open at another college and students walked by and looked in while I was nude - in between changing into my clothes. Other teachers and some students sometimes enter the room at the current college I am consistently posing for life drawing. I also pose for an independent artist at his house and his wife is present and actually helps him on commenting on his painting during the pose comparing his painting to my body and parts... Ie. leg too short etc. Anyway, there have been others, but I think as long as it is not too disruptive it is ok with me. |

Hi, I have been modeling for sometime and people have dropped in. Most are curious and try to act relaxed, but seem a bit awkward. I just ignore them and keep posing figuring they aren't any different than the people who hired me. Usually one or two people don't bother me. If I was told ahead of time I don't think I'd be as relaxed modeling. So I guess what I'm saying is "What the hell, this is what I do!" |
